Discover History and Culture

Oakville is a town rich in history, since being established in 1857 by Colonel William Chisholm. The town was a main port of entry and was also a place where many African American Slaves who had embarked on the long and risky Underground Railroad journey finally found freedom in Canada. The stories of the past have been captured and preserved, thanks to the Oakville Historical Society. Visit the Oakville Museum, where you will also find the historic buildings of the Custom House and Bank of Toronto, the Erchless Estate, the Old Post Office and the Thomas House, a pioneer home with artifacts on display.

Visit Bronte Creek Provincial Park for its annual Maple Syrup Festival – A great event for families.
